CommHIT and the Professional Association of Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM) go wayyy back and work together like peanut butter and jelly. We’re ALWAYS cooking up and serving something exciting. According to Forbes, only 25% of the tech workforce is comprised of women. Recently, our two organizations—with the support of Clark University’s $12M US Department of Labor (USDOL) grant—infused the US tech workforce with hundreds of people: specifically, 95 women to every one man! We’re continuing to make strides from 2024-28 with CommHIT’s newest USDOL grant.

Join us to meet PAHCOM’s Executive Director Karen Blanchette, MBA and learn what PAHCOM has to offer. She has an impressive background as she was a senior administrator of a hospital on the Navy ship USS John C. Stennis, making her the first woman healthcare administrator assigned to an aircraft carrier. She also served as the CIO for the Naval Dental Command Headquarters and is a world record-holding skydiver. Clearly, the sky’s not the limit for her! PAHCOM is dedicated to helping the health and tech workforce reach new heights—on land and in space!

CommHIT learned about Aptima’s incredible work at NASA’s Human Research Program Investigators’ Workshop at the top of 2025 (thank you Samantha Emerson)!

Fast-forward to April: Aptima is sharing the latest advancements in non-contact sensing technologies and their healthcare uses at Space Health Nexus. Not only is Isabel Erickson going to be presenting, she’ll be providing live demos at the at the Aptima Exhibit. Thanks to Isabel, YOU can witness how wearable devices proactively monitor heat stress and enable interventions before emergencies arise.

Using advanced algorithms developed by the US Army Research Institute for Environmental Medicine, Aptima is able to ensure the safety of workers in extreme environments. Powered by SafeGuard, Aptima’s work provides the precision and reliability needed for heat stress management in high-risk environments. SafeGuard was honored with Fast Company’s “World Changing Ideas 2024” award in collaboration with Rogers-O’Brien Construction.

Space radiation is a significant concern for astronauts and spacecraft because of its potential health and technological impacts. First responders and the healthcare sector can also face risks of radiation exposure, especially during emergencies involving radioactive materials, such as nuclear accidents, transportation incidents, or radiological dispersal devices (RDDs, also known as “dirty bombs”). It’s not a bad idea to learn about RST and its innovations in radiation protection!
